Dr. Alessandra Puggioni is a Vascular and Vein Surgeon now practicing in NYC
Dr. Puggioni received her MD degree Cum Laude in 1994, at age 23 from the Universty of Rome "La Sapenza" - a top performer in international university rankings- which counts six past Nobel Prize recipients, is one of the oldest universities in the world, and the largest one in Europe.
Dr. Puggioni was trained by the surgeons who pioneered venous valve repairs, deep venous reconstructions, perforators ablations and has completed additional advanced training in endovascular techniques. She won several awards during her residency, including the "Best Resident`s Chairman Award" for two consecutive years, due to her superior surgical skills, patient management and team leadership.
Dr Puggioni completed her Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 2006. During her 25-year medical career Dr. Puggioni has won several prestigious awards, such as the BSN research Fellowship of the American Venous Forum for her original experimental research and Marco Polo Fellowship by the Society for Vascular Surgery.
After Fellowship Dr. Puggioni worked as an academic vascular surgery attending at Maimonides Medical Center in New York, where she held a position as Ass. Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. Dr. Puggioni is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Puggioni is former Chair of Vascular Surgery of Honor Health Osborn Medical Center in Scottsdale AZ and has been awarded status of Distinguished Fellow of the American Venous Forum in 2016. Dr Puggioni is a Distinguished Reviewer and a member of the Editorial Board of for the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders, the top medical journal in the field, and recently elected "Best New Reviewer" in 2020.
Dr. Puggioni is a nationally and internationally known vascular expert serving as member of several vascular societies committees and councilor. She has presented her research work at major national and international vascular meetings, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed pubmed-indexed medical articles and over fifteen book chapters. Dr. Puggioni is the 2020-2021 Chair of patient Education Committee of the American Venous Forum, as well as a Director of the the American Venous Forum Foundation.
